Special honour for 'outstanding' practice in Maths
Valley Invicta Primary School at Leybourne Chase has been recognised with a special honour for outstanding progress in maths.
Its one of only 14 schools in the UK to be recognised as 'distinguished' by Whizz Education, the providers of a virtual maths tutoring programme called Maths Whizz.
The programme is suitable for five to 13 year olds and can improve a child's 'maths age' by more than 18 months if used for an hour a day for a year.
Richard Marett, CEO, Whizz Education said: "Valley Invicta Primary School at Leybourne Chase pupils have shown outstanding progress in our Whizz Education maths learning programme. To qualify for distinguished school status, schools needed to demonstrate accelerated learning in maths, where students have passed a minimum of three tests each week over the course of the academic year."
The progress was tracked in real time and showed an increase in maths age, which measures children's ability against the level of an average student.
Josh Still, maths subject leader and SRP teacher at Leybourne Chase, said: "In terms of results, last year was a bit different with the restrictions and lockdowns. We saw our progression rates slow in a range of subjects due to the pandemic, except maths, which remained steady - this is due to the children's access to Maths Whizz. It's been such a vital tool to be able to scaffold to their ability."
Well done to everyone at Leybourne Chase!
