History
At Valley Invicta Primary School at Leybourne Chase, we believe that history encourages pupils to consider how the past has influenced the present, and how a variety of elements influenced people’s actions.
Pupils will gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. History also develops the skills of researching and evaluating evidence, asking perceptive questions, thinking critically, the knowledge of past events, civilisations and the concepts of chronology. Learning about the past can influence pupils’ attitudes towards the present and the future.
Intent, Implementation and Impact
At Valley Invicta Primary School at Leybourne Chase, the mastery curriculum is designed to ensure that children leave our school in Year 6 as independent enquirers, creative thinkers, reflective learners, team workers, self - managers and effective participators. We believe that History is integral to this.
History allows for real life experiences such as high-quality trips to Leeds Castle, immersive workshops from visitors exploring the Stone Age and lessons delivered by Maidstone Museum. Our pedagogical approach of open-ended instruction that takes account of different learning styles, integrated enquiry-based learning with formative and summative assessment to ensure pupils are reaching the mastery standard. This approach enables our children to demonstrate that they remember more, know more and understand more.
